Switzerland Shelf Portico

Catalog Description:

C.1775, Swiss, 8-Day Quarter Striking mantel clock. As you might imagine, the Swiss were influenced by both the French and the Austrians in their clock making. This movement is large and round (diam5.5 inches)as the French would make it, but the quarter count wheel and nest of 2 bells is mounted on the back plate, in a similar fashion to some early Austrian movements. The back plate is signed J. P. DuComun. The suspension is silk thread. The pendulum has been replaced, and you might find something more appropriate at a local chapter meeting of NAWCC (note pend length is off a bit as well) The portico style case is supported by wooden pilasters in the rear, faced with gilt reed plants, and the front supported by full bodied Greek maidens with capitals on their heads. Feet and wooden rear dust cover are missing. An interesting 18th Century clock. Height 17" Reserve $500
