Joseph Ives

Catalog Description:

C.1829, Joseph Ives, Brooklyn, Long Island, New York, rare wagon spring shelf clock in very good condition with tasteful restorations. See Ken Roberts" book on Ives, pages 84 + 85 for details of the movement and the case. Note this particular clock had an iron dial made for it in 1955 (no signature) with the minute ring inside and outside the numerals; it has 40+ years of age and looks quite good. These models are seen with both mirrors and tablets in the lower door, and this mirror looks to have been here form the start. The label on this clock is very good, despite some water stains; the two tin plates visible in the label image were tacked on to solve a noisy rubbing problem of the leaf springs along the case back (have been there at least a century). Ives made great progress in his movement development during his Brooklyn years, most noteworthy, the strap brass design used in this model; this one an early model with 4 holes per wheel. Height 24'
