United States Wall Banjo

Catalog Description:

C.1840, Boston area, Willard School, number one size regulator banjo, in mahogany. This clock has had some unpleasant restoration that could be corrected by a careful workman. Retains original wrought iron dial with some paint, but has been incorrectly papered over with an artists work, signed "Howard and Davis Co." Has a quality movement with many Willard/Howard traits, including well cut pinions, hardened steel pivots, maintaining power, etc, and drilled for filister screws (now secured with regular wood screws). Back of case has pivot relief for this unique movement; and also some extra holes where retainer tabs used to help secure the movement. Stick is typical Willard, with gesso and gilding, but pend bob is now Seth Thomas, and stick has been modified to accept this bob; weight is new. Lower tablet is old with REGULATOR in gold leaf; center tablet new. Above it all it seems to run well and looks great on the wall. Would be $6500 if correct; estimate reflects condition; height 52'
