Antique Elisha Manross Clock Price Type: auction |
|
Catalog Description: C.1843, Elisha Manross, Bristol, Conn, 8-Day Faux Hollow column, 2-wt. This is an uncommon hollow column, in that the columns are full round, rather than half columns that Manross also made. The movement achieves 8-day duration by using the "tombstone" cutouts of the main plates as the "feet" below (riveted on), to allow for installation of an extra arbor and gear. Manross circumvented the Noble Jerome strike patent by moving the count wheel up to the No. 3 position, just below the governor fan. Note the weights descend in narrow channels either side of the movement. The shortcomings follow: the original dial has been drilled (4 holes) and screwed in place; bottom tablet new (nicely painted), small chip in center of mirror; label split and with water stain, but still quite legible. Generally very good condition. Height 33" Reserve $450 |
