Atkins Clock Company Drop Octagon

Catalog Description:

C.1855, Atkins, Whiting and Co., Bristol, Conn., Drop Octagon wall clock with 30-day wagon spring movement. This clock is in very good condition. There is minor touch-up on the dial round the center hole. Retains original hands, bezel, tablet, and pendulum. The case retains original finish, but the very bottom left return has been re-veneered (barely noticeable), and a couple of glue joints are loose; both ivory door knobs intact. We had trouble getting this off the wall because the owner had screwed the clock to the wall from the inside (so couple of extra holes are there.) See this model in Palmer's Treasury of American Clocks, page 102, and also in Ken Robert's book on Ives, page 286-7, detailing Ives patent "Pony Shoe" movement. See lot 316 in Nov'99 sale, which was bid to $2500. Movement photo, American Clock and Watch Museum. Height 24.5" Reserve $2000
