Catalog Description: C.1870, Austrian Astronomical Wall Clock. The complex movement indicates solar time and sidereal time, with separate hands to show sunrise and sunset (with wheel and cam action that may be adjusted to any latitude). The hour hand (with sunburst) rotates once per day, the outer dial numbered I-XII twice. A Zodiac ring moves in Zodiacal frequency. Moon indications are via a Halifax moon that revolves at the end of a centered hand to show the phases of the lunar satellite. The back plate marked D.R.Patent No. 82689, and EDM Kinsner. The dial, pendulum and weight engraved. We could get it to tick, but it needs service, and the 4 lb weight looks small for the work required. Also we were able to wind the clock with a carriage clock key, but you will need an extra long shaft No. 1 crank to clear the complexity of hands. This is a rare clock, and with notes and train count by Henry Fried (unsigned). Walnut case, height 57' |
