France Shelf Figural Novelty

Catalog Description:

C.1870, French, Douillon, Figural Clock, an eagle holding a globe on its shoulders. This clock has been presented twice, first to Ignatius Sargent some time after his retirement in 1864 and then again in 1927 to his son Charles Sargent on his retirement from Globe National Bank, Boston. The well made round movement is signed Douillon; he was certainly very ingenious to mount the movement in at an odd angle, then extend the bridge for the verge back 2 inches so the pendulum could swing in the small space behind the eagle. The presentation base has been rotated 180_ so the engraving is out of view in the rear. Most of the bright gilding is still intact, and the fine detail on the eagle is amazing. Must be some "Globe" company out there that would have a special interest in this item. Note the last repairman to clean this replaced mounting screws with phillips screws which can be changed back by a good mechanic. You turn rear half of globe to remove it. Height 20 inches $3500-4000
