Catalog Description: C.1880, English, Jacob and Halse, London, a sextant in box, sold by John H. Wheeler, 220 Water St., New York (the box with full label of the dealer). The oak box retains original lock (less key) and aged exterior finish, which has protected the instrument well. The sextant itself of dark dense hardwood (possibly ebony) and brass with ivory scales, the scales with some discoloration. Box measures 14 x 13 x 4" high. $400-600 |
