Antique New Haven "Chime Clock No. 1" Model Clock Price Type: auction |
|
Catalog Description: C.1890, New Haven, "Chime Clock No. 1" in oak with brass trimmings. This clock is complete and original with all finials, feet and trim intact. The description in the New Haven catalog is inadequate; please see Tran Ly's New Haven book, page 400, where he pictures 4 views of this unique and sturdy movement. Note it plays Whittington 8-bell tune, not Westminster as indicated in the catalog. There is a pull repeat lever out the top of the clock that repeats the hours on a large gong in case you lost count. Uses a unique disc pendulum with center ball adjustment. The cast bells have excellent tone. The dial is silvered, etched brass with cast spandrels in the corners, with F/S scale below hand shaft. Case with minor wear, but with original finish in very good condition; beveled glass in door. Note there are 4 flame finials on top but rear 2 do not show in photo; also see side frets with original cloth intact. Bottom molding is coming loose. A great American clock. Height 18" Reserve $1900 |
