Catalog Description: C.1900, French Time Globe. This is a large and impressive globe (13") in remarkably good condition. The small oval with the globe makers name has been painted over, and is illegible, however the paper surface is otherwise in very good condition, crisply legible, with bright colors for the continents. There are some bits of the equator seam strip missing, and this should be attended. The globe and clock assembly are supported by a turned wooden base. The quality clock movement is housed in a 5" brass canister, and driven by a heavy spring wound with a music-box-style ratchet lever winder. A single brass hand extending from the North Pole can be positioned at your city of choice and the time read off the chapter ring at the equator (numbered I-XII twice). Such globes were popular in schools and libraries around the turn of the 20th Century. Height 23.5" Reserve $7500 |
