Switzerland Shelf Carriage

Catalog Description:

C.1900, Swiss, Minute Repeating Mini-Carriage clock, for Black, Starr and Frost, NY, in excellent original condition. This particular clock embodies a "crystal-set" alarm mechanism (rotate crystal to set). The time movement is wound by a stem, hidden beneath the sliding base cover; depress the stem to set the time. The alarm is wound with a small key, and the time is set with the same key from the rear of the clock. The hour, quarter and minutes are counted out when the plunger on top is depressed. Although the movement is unsigned, it was most likely made by Mathey-Tissot at Les Ponts-de-Martel in Neuchatel. This firm produced an extensive line of quality miniature travel clocks just after the turn of the century, and although numbered, they are not normally signed. Running, and repeating briskly; original gilding excellent. The base cover is engraved with the retailer: Black, Starr and Frost, N.Y. Height, less handle 2.8", with handle 3.8" Reserve $6000
