English Oak Cased Tallcase Clock, 18th century SAMUEL ASHTON, TIDESWELL. 30 Hour movement striking on a bell. Square brass dial with silvered chapter ring and date aperture by Samuel Ashton, Tideswell, Derbyshire, England. Plain oak case with caddy top to hood. Long slender trunk with long door typical of very early long case design. The movement cleaned and restoredand in full working order. Case restoration includes some work carried out by previous owner. Skirting to bottom of case has been replaced. Samuel Ashton is listed as working in Tideswell from 1723 to 1730. Height 120 inches.
