Catalog Description: English Victorian Tallcase Clock, circa 1850 The oak case profusely but subtly inlaid with rosewood, mahogany and boxwood stringing. John Hill was the case maker, his stamp is placed at the top of the trunk door. The Dial has charming images of architecture, and in the arch a man playing with his spaniel. The enamel dial is unusually convex. Clockmaker -Hallam and Son - Nottingham, England. Hallam is well known name around Nottingham with a number of Hallams listed working. This clock dates from around 1850 and although we can not find a reference, we can assume that Hallam and Son must have a connection with the earlier makers. Hallam and Son is listed in Looms as working 1849 to 1855. The 8-day movement has been fully restored by us and is in full working order. The case is in very good condition with no significant losses or restoration. The feet have probably been replaced but some time ago. Height 84".
