Gebruder Resch

Catalog Description:

Resch Brothers Vienna Regulator Wall Clock, circa 1901 Walnut case with veneer, 54" tall by 14 1/4" wide; case condition: good; All of the components of this clock bear matching serial numbers-marking it as a complete and original piece. These numbers are found on the pendulum plate the pendulum bracket suspension plate and the clock mechanism-all have the same serial number- 52251. The RG logo of the Gebruder Resch is found on the plate as well as the word REMEMBER. The name of the Resch factory location is also engraved on the movement plate-EBENSEE Ob. Oest. There is a small area of hairlines on the INSIDE circle of the dial at the number 9 position. Dealer comments: Lorentz Resch of Ebensee Austria was listed as the COURT APPOINTED CLOCKMAKER TO THE AUSTRIAN EMPEROR. He was acknowleged as the leading Austrian clockmaker of his day. His sons took over the business after his death. Later they sold it to the Junghans Clock Co.. In remembrence of the marriage one of their daughters the Junghans company designated this style regulator as the REMEMBRENCE OR REMEMBER. From then on it was thus engraved on the movement plate as it appears in this clock. The only actual disappointment in this wonderful clock is the fact that the top or crown is a replacement-which is quite common on Vienna Regulator clocks. Legend has it that during the wars the tops were actually used for fire wood. What a shame to sacrifice part of ones nice clock to stay warm for only a short while! If the top had not been replaced this clock would be priced at well over $2,000.
