France Shelf

Catalog Description:

Early French Clock SIZE: Eleven inches wide, six deep, and sixteen inches high. DESCRIPTION: An amazing find, for which Uncle Larry is famous! With its' ebony dial and thick movement plates (2.65mm) we would guess this is an early 1800's piece. Black lacquered case with lots of carving, mostly with gilt trim, topped with four acorn finials and thatched roof. Note that the top center finial section is missing. Overall the case is pretty solid. The front section does have some separation of the sections orginally glued together. Back door has a fascinating and fully functional wooden slide to lock it. The painting on the front we are 99 percent sure is original; the sides however appear to have been done later. DIAL: Ebony dial, black with red numbers; quite sure the brass hands are also original. MOVEMENT: Intact time and strike movement, quite dirty (but wants to run), signed only with the initial "F" on lower center of back plate, serial No. 510 on both movement and pendulum. Not exactly sure how the mounting of the movement was originally. It is a fairly tight slip fit through the wooden bezel (someone has attached a piece of cardboard to the back of the front section), but might have had straps, but we cannot find any evidence of it.
