Catalog Description: C.1875, French, A. Brocot, Brass Cased carriage clock No. 1012. Brass Cased carriage clock, Grand Sonnerie. In the book Carriage Clocks by Chs. Allix, page 433, is a brief discussion of Brocots production, which ranges from roughly 1864 to 1878 (his year of death). Clocks bearing his signature trademark have been found with as low a serial number as 51, and as high as 1225. This is an unusual case of well cast components, leaf themes along all the straight lines, and separate cast feet as might be found on an English bracket clock. Very minor nicks and scrapes to the case; all beveled glass excellent. The round brass dial appears to have been restored with paint, neatly applied. But the best feature is the dial surround, which is silver over tooled brass and with applied multicolor (gold?) flowers (iris in bloom) and a dragonfly, with another insect and pansies at top. The bottom selector rides in a slotted cover, engraved: Silent, Quarters, Hours and Quarters. Height 8" |
