Austria Shelf

Catalog Description:

C.1830, Austrian, an early 19th Century reproduction of the famous Renaissance clock by Jeremias Metzger C.1570 and displayed in the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna. A similar clock was made by Chas-Parus Bohemus in 1568, with full astronomical indications (see Tardy part I) Note this lot ONLY gives time and strike, and the planetary and calendar dials are inanimate. This clock has had some damage and loss to a bit of the casting (on top), and the base has been reattached with modern machine screws, is slightly bent, and finally, most of the gilding has worn off. Has a well made 30 hour time/strike movement, with silk suspension and pend rod, but bob is absent; will require cleaning to run. In good condition, these usually bring around $2500. Still historically interesting. Height 12"
