Catalog Description:

French Calendar Clock c. 1890 Dimensions:17" tall by 12 1/4" wide Maker/Mfgr./Author/Artist:W.S. Adams and Son Paris Condition:Excellent, with replaced paper Month strip. Circa:1890 Materials:Black laquered case with excellent brass 30-day movement; paper dials for DAY, DATE and MONTH. Description:French shelf calendar clock. The features on this scarce clock mark it as being a VERY well made piece! The glass cover on the front of the clock can be raised (to set the hands) by grasping a small wooden knob on top of the clock. Lifting this knob raises the glass cover. There are also controls on the sides of the clock which the winding key fits and which are turned once a month to set the correct day-date for that particular month. The owner needs to adjust these day-date settings just once a month when he or she is winding the clock-which also runs for 30 days. Inside the clock is a simple mechanism that includes a hammer which is raised by the clock mechanism once every day. When the hammer drops, it taps a rod on the calendar mechanism which advances the day and date one sequence. The name on the dial is original and says W.S. Adams and Sons. The movement is also engraved with that maker's name and also says Brevete and Paris and includes the monogrammed signature of this maker and his sons.
