Catalog Description:

Reeded pilaster and scroll top looking glass clock. 30 hour wood movement, 2 weight groaner type, was probably a standard production model of Boardman's The strike lever extends thru the top of the case to strike an iron bell on top Reportedly the case and movement style derived from the Joseph Ives large scroll top looking glass cases This large case with the smoked interior,and full door, was either a Chauncey Jerome or Jerome, Darrow & Co,Bristol, Conn clock, ca around 1824-1828 The one piece door is the full width of the case, hinged on the left and goes all the way to the bottom The movement is supported (originally) by cleats screwed to the back of the case, Bottom cleat is missing The bottom glass surrounded by original putty,the other two probably replaced The iron bell is missing from the top These cases typically did not come with labels and it is apparent this one never had a label 37 inch mahogany veneer case with brass finials, very nice 12 inch square wood dial Scroll top, reeded columns, carved acanthus at the top of each side of the door frame Wood movement has the verge and escapement between the plates This style case and the pillar and scroll cases were replaced by the stencilled column and splat cases It never had feet References: "The Contribution of Joseph Ives to Connecticut Clock Technology, 1810-1862" References: by Kenneth D Roberts, Revised Second Edition, Chapter 3, pages 34-55 References: "Eli Terry and the Connecticut Shelf Clock, Second Edition Revised, References: Kenneth D Roberts and Snowden Taylor, pages 170-179
