Catalog Description:

Forrestville Mfg. Co., Bristol, Ct.", per the full" paper label. The proprietors listed on the label are, "E.N. Welch, J.C. Brown, C. Pomeroy". This exact label is pictured in the book, "The Contributions of Joseph Ives to the Connecticut Clock Technology, 1810-1862", Revised Second Edition, by Kenneth D. Roberts, page 207-208. This clock was therefore made between 1841 and 1843. 8 day movement is very rare in that the alarm is spring driven, while the time and strike gears are weight driven. It alarms on an iron bell and strikes on a wire gong. It is running but could use some routine service. Old dial is excellent, with service notations on the back, 1843, 1877. The brass movement has a 24 hour count wheel.37 inch mahogany veneer case, original ball feet, 1 original key escutcheon. Original graining on the columns but some new gold paint. No missing parts, weights and pendulum are period, bottom 2 glasses are replaced.
