H Blakeslee

Catalog Description:

H. Blakeslee, Cincinnati, Ohio, pillar and scroll clock with some thought provoking additions. 30 hour wood movement strikes an iron bell. 30-hour iron weights are painted black. The body of the case, backboard, label, movement, dial, door, is an old pillar and scroll. The base, top, and columns were added. The old wood dial had normal stretch marks but were covered with alight green paint to match who knows what. The label is real good and the old movement is ticking right along. This early clockmaker, the Blakeslee Brothers, sold clocks and clock parts to Silas B. Terry and Seth Thomas, and sold under their own labels. This clock, ca 1830, was sold by Harper Blakeslee. See "Eli Terry & the Connecticut Shelf Clock", Second Revised Edition, page 247, by Kenneth D. Roberts and Snowden Taylor.
