Catalog Description: Jerome & Co. New Haven, Conn. rare and patented Eistell's program regulator clock, ca 1870. A typical Jerome mahogany veneer case in very nice condition, stands 16 inches high. Black trim around the base, edge of clock front and around the door. Near mint, 2 piece gutta-percha glass. As you probably know, gutta-percha is the dried sap from a tree, colored, and molded to resemble wood carving and even jewelry. Was very popular around 1850. Perfect full label on the door. Another label, although very dark, on the back about Eistell's Programmable Clock. The program mechanism is protected by plastic. The basic idea was to add a large wheel to a striking clock movement. It can be programmed to made a clock strike up to 96 times, at 5 minute intervals, each 8 hours, and was used mostly in schools. See the NAWCC Bulletin, Whole Number 251, for pictures and research on this clock. The clock in the Bulletin is identical to this one. |
