Catalog Description: L.F. and W.W. Carter (Luther and Wilham), Bristol, Conn. Weight calendar clock. They were in business from 1862- 1868, manufacturing calendar clocks using the B.B. Lewis patented calendar mechanisms. The label in the case reads,"B.B.Lewis Patent Perpetual Calendar Eight & Thirty Day Office and Mantle Clocks made expressly for L.F. & W.W. Carter, Bristol" This clock is 8 day, time only, weight driven. It has solid plates, retaining power, steel pivoted rolling pinions, 2 round weights painted black. The case is called a "Lewis Calendar No. 2". Dials are original, time dial is 12 inches, calendar dial 8 inches. This old clock is near mint. The only non mint thing I can find is the label. It is legible but the weights have scraped against it for 140 years, so it isn't perfect. The calendar door cover and label are excellent. I suspect the black label may be one of the identical reproduced ones, but then everything else is mint so it could be to. Ly-Calendar, pages40-41, or Millers "Calendar Clocks", page 62. |
