England Wall School House or Drop

Catalog Description:

English Dial clock, ca 1850. This style clock first evolved in the late 1700's and took the place of the "Act of Parliament" and "Tavern Clocks". It is a traditional office or schoolroom clock and is essentially a gallery clock with a plain wooden case below. The movement and dial are like those of an earlier style, but this case consists simply of a wooden dial surround on a salt box back, and a case known as "drop dial". 14 inch white, painted, flat iron dial, iron weights and pendulum. Movement is on a seat board like a tall clock, with a verge escapement, and rack and snail strike. The old mahogany case has had some restoration work, but minor wood separations were left alone. I did not check back of case, movement, or dial, for any makers signature, none visible where you can examine easily. The large old case is 61 inches high, 18 1/2 inches wide, 10 inches deep.
