Catalog Description: S. B. Terry wall regulator, ca 1830. The predecessor clock of the Seth Thomas No. l and No. 2 wall regulators. A similar case and movement was used by Seth Thomas for years after he bought the S. B. Terry bankrupt stock. As it turned out the similar Seth Thomas No. 2 regulator was an all time American favorite for over 100 years and remains very poplar today. 33" rosewood veneered case with the original old glass, old dial with very little flaking, hands, pendulum, movement, and weight. The old flat weight comes down behind a sliding partition which also serves as the label board. Notice that most of the label is still there and the beat scale which is part of the label, is still there. Movement is 8 day, time only. This is an excellent example of the rare, early wall regulator. See "A Treasury of American Clocks", by Brooks Palmer; and "Eli Terry and the Connecticut Shelf Clock, Second Edition, Revised", by Kenneth D. Roberts and Snowden Taylor, particularly Chapter10. |
