Catalog Description:

Scottish "Drum Head" tall clock Scottish "Drum Head" tall clock, apparently was strictly a Scottish style of long case clock. Different ornaments or cresting were added to the top, by the makers, each adding their own style of ornaments. This clock by "A. B. Arthur, Glasgow", is typical of the "Drum Head" clocks of the 1820-1840 period. The round iron dial has a chapter ring, seconds ring, and calendar ring, all in gold paint. Some slight fading of the black numerals on the gold dial ring. Makers name in the middle. None of the hands appear to be original. 81 inch mahogany veneer case with bun feet, tapered case, half columns on the sides, scroll decoration on top. Old iron weights and pendulum. Pulleys, bell, brass movement, all typical English. The movement is 8 day, iron bell on top, strikes the hours. Excellent condition overall, has been serviced and is running. Reference, "Grandfather Clocks & their Cases", by Brian Loomes, Chapter 7, Scotland Clocks.
