Catalog Description:

Outstanding French bronze garniture set. Roman motif, horses, chariot, Roman soldiers, and some added touches such as the lion in the chariot, and the various weapons of war that abound on the case. 8 day French movement with bell strike, signed only, "Vincenti, Medaille D'Argent & C ie". Exceptionally clean, bright, complete. The clock is called, "Chariot of Diomedes'", ca 1810. An Empire gilt bronze mantle clock, porcelain dial, bowed and beveled glass. Diomedes is standing in the chariot driving the 2 horses, Athene behind him with upraised shield. The base mounted with various ornaments and fasces on each corner. Bronze case is 20 inches high and 20 inches wide. Back door in shape of a wheel. Front of case stamped "Howard & Co., New York". Identical clock, without the side pieces is pictured in, "Foreign Clocks, Identification and Price Guide", Book 2, Pages 107-108 by Roy Ehrhardt. He valued at $3500 in 1965.
