Hopkins and Alfred

Catalog Description:

Hopkins & Alfred column and splat clock "Hopkins & Alfred, Harwinton, Conn", ca 1834-1840. 30 hour wood movement clock of the short drop or transition style, stenciled columns and splat, carved feet, all original. The highlight of this clock is the painting of George Washington. It is in fair condition as is, but should have some professional attention to preserve it. Unfortunately masking tape was put over the spots where paint had flaked off. We're talking a half dozen pieces from 2 to 4 inches long mostly in the head area. If I were collecting original presidents glasses I would spend whatever it takes to restore the painting. The glass is original to this case and has the original putty. Top glass has been replaced. Original 27 inch mahogany veneer case is excellent. Note the splat shows a stenciled eagle. The dial is slightly faded. Weights, pendulum, hands, are period.
