Catalog Description: E. Terry & Sons pillar and scroll clock, ca 1823-1833. "Patent Clocks, Invented by Eli Terry, Made and Sold at Plymouth, Connecticut, by E. Terry & Sons", ca 1823-1833. 30 hour wood movement in fine running condition, striking an iron bell. Good old wood dial has had a slight touchup by the Dial House in 1977. The top glass has been replaced, bottom is an old original pillar and scroll tablet but I suspect not original to this case. Gold paint is good by needs a touchup or at least rebacked. 31 inch mahogany veneer case is solid and looks great but has been professionally restored, door lock replaced, escutcheons and key are fine. Brass finials are the solid, screw in type. Have the glass finished and the clock will be fine. Exact clock with movement, shown and discussed on pages 108-111, "Eli Terry and the Connecticut Shelf Clock", Second Edition, Revised, by Kenneth D. Roberts and Snowden Taylor. |
