Catalog Description: Lucius B. Bradley column clock Rare clock by "Lucius B. Bradley, Watertown", as stated on the iron painted dial and the full paper label. Label reads, "Patent, Improved Eight Day, Brass Clock's, Made by, Lucius B. Bradley, Watertown, CT, Warranted". This identical label and dial wording have also been found on pillar & scroll clocks by Bradley. This short, double pillar case, has the larger 8 day iron weights compounded to rollers at the top of the case. A removable top or lid, lifts off the top to access the rollers and weight cords. This identical movement and case is shown in Chapter IV, "Eli Terry and The Connecticut Shelf Clock", Second Edition Revised, by Kenneth D. Roberts and Snowden Taylor. Ca 1821-1825. Same iron painted dial with seconds dial, used on other clocks sold by Bradley, Curtis & Clark, Bishop & Bradley, Sylvester Clark, and Heman Clark. 26 1/2 inch mahogany veneer case, 2 door locks, ivory escutcheons. Old glasses with new putty, iron bell not original. Excellent iron dial, 13 inches wide, 11 inches high, not a repaint Old paper covering on back of the case. |
