Catalog Description: S. C. Spring column clock, ca 1864-1868 Note the fine black label that reads, "Regulator/Strike/Extra Eight Day/Rolling pinion/Brass Clocks/Manufactured by/S.C.Spring successor to Birge, Peck & Co./Bristol, Conn/Warranted if Well Used". 8 day strike and alarm. Strikes a coil gong, alarms on an iron bell. Large period iron weights, period bob and key, hands, and old zinc dial-repainted. 30 inch rosewood case is fairly short for 8 day. Beautiful old glass has been rebacked, and as usual most of the gold and red held tight. Beautiful case polished like a piece of fine furniture. Wonderful gold half columns. Cornice top, beveled wood around the door. No veneer repair or old damage, case almost mint. Refer to pages 314-315 in Kenneth D.
