E and GW Bartholomew

Catalog Description:

Rare Hollow Column clock by E. & G.W. Bartholomew Rare Hollow Column by "E. & G.W. Bartholomew, Bristol, Conn". These cousins formed a partnership that lasted from 1828 until 1832. Their most unique product was the hollow column clocks which they are credited with originating. This 32 inch model with the wide cornice top, 3 inch columns, is mahogany veneer, in excellent condition and only a small amount of repair evident. A part of upper section of the backboard is replaced. 2 old escutcheons, door locks, and key. Weights look like other hollow column weights I have seen but could be repro's. Excellent full label, old bob and hands. 30 hour wood movement runs strong. Top glass has the original putty, mirror is more modern. Bottom is original but has 2 cracks, one on each end. Very good old wood dial. A lot of research is available on these early hollow column shelf clocks. 1-" The Bartholomew, Bristol Clockmakers", article by Brooks Palmer in "The American Antique Journal", June 1948. 2-"The Old Clock Book", by N.
