Catalog Description:

Mark Leavenworth & Son pillar and scroll, ca 1825-1827. "Mark Leavenworth & Son, Waterbury, Connecticut", ca 1825-1827. Pillar and Scroll by one of the first competitors of Eli Terry. He began by making these 30 hour wood movement clocks. Strikes an iron bell. The clock will run with your finger on the time side weight. Hasn't been run since 1974 so probably a little tight. Movement is complete and wheels are free to run. Excellent wood dial had holes lowered many moons ago. It has a great look with painted bouquet in the center and painted flowers on the 4 corners. 31 inch mahogany veneer case, finials said to be original, both ears have been repaired, base original as is the top glass, bottom a professional repaint with a very good putty job. Full label, brass escutcheon, original key lock, everything period and original except where noted. The movement, case, and maker, are pictured and discussed on pages 160-162 of the book, "Eli Terry & the Connecticut Shelf Clock", Second Edition Revised, by Kenneth D. Roberts and Snowden Taylor. One of the better Pillar and Scrolls we have seen, case is superior.
