Silas Burnham Terry

Catalog Description:

Silas B. Terry, modified triple decker column and splat clock, ca 1833-1839. clock with 8 day, brass movement, ca 1833-1839. During this time S. B. Terry was experimenting with various 8 day brass movements. This one has a solid brass backplate, cut steel pinions, wrought brass wheels, and circular front plate. This case and movement are pictured on pages 322-323, "Eli Terry and the Connecticut Shelf Clock", Second Edition Revised, by Kenneth D. Roberts and Snowden Taylor. Runs strong with the 2 old weights and pendulum pictured. Wood dial is open to show the escapement and the attractive round part of the movement. There are some stretch marks and some paint loss on the old dial. The top 2 glasses are original and retain the old putty, bottom a good replacement. Ivory escutcheons and door locks, but key won't work the lock. 38 inch mahogany veneer case, full columns, carved splat, 4 turned feet. Paper over entire back of case. 2 labels on the backboard, like those pictured in the above book.
