EN Welch Assortment B, No. 12

Catalog Description:

E.N. Welch Clock Co. shelf clock, one of "Assortment B, No. 12", series, or "Fish Scale", clock. 8 day strike and alarm movement runs strong. Walnut case is original and complete. English companies joined a great many of our shelf clocks to their special backboards fitted with alarms and bells. They were sold to the small bed and breakfast inns that abound in England, to be used as wake up or meal calls. They are called "annunciator" clocks in England. We have seen Seth Thomas, New Haven, Ansonia, and Welch clocks converted to annunciator clocks. The box on the left held a telephone dry cell battery. Wires cross the back of the case to the bell on the right. I suspect the thermometer-barometer were added later. I have many letters from owners of similar clocks documenting their authenticity. This clock is 29 inches wide at the base and 28 inches high. I suspect a good battery would make it operational. Ly-Welch No.496.
