Catalog Description: C.1838, Eli Terry, Jr. and Co., Terrysville, Conn., 8-day time/strike column and cornice shelf clock, in good condition, except as noted. (town is definitely printed with center "s"). In the past, the case was completely painted white, and has managed to be scrubbed down with wire wool without using chemical strippers (some white still in seams) This large brass round top movement is by Eli Terry, Jr., and is in good condition. The dial is well above average with original hands. The original tablet has been removed from the door for restoration, and then put in with glazer's points (putty line is still obvious). The top glass is original. The case has veneer damage along the base, at the door hinges, and a small piece missing at upper corner. The case is missing its simple cornice top and probably had some sort of feet. The hands are original. Strike bell now replaced with gong. There is a picture of a very similar clock on page 146 of "The Contributions of Joseph Ives to Connecticut Clock Technology" by Ken Roberts. It shows the movement and also the type of cornice this clock probably had. Height 34" $700-$900 |
