Hotchkiss and Benedict

Catalog Description:

C.1835, Hotchkiss and Benedict, Auburn, New York, 8-day time and strike highly figured mahogany, 2-wt shelf clock. The mirror is a replacement. The top capitals and side returns are replacements, although very nicely copied from originals. The signed dial is very nice with normal wear to the gold decoration. There is a nice label inside the case. The escapement indicator is unusual, depicting a rider on a horse. There are some small veneer chips here and there. The minute hand looks to have been adapted from an hour hand. A piece of the upper backboard has been replaced. The brass knobs are old but may not be original, as you usually find these clocks with glass knobs. Despite these shortcomings, this a model that is getting hard to find. Height 38" $900-$1,200
