Antique Whiting Atkins and Company "Drop Octagon" Model Clock Price Type: auction |
|
Catalog Description: C.1855, Atkins, Whiting and Co., 30-day wagon spring, ripple molded drop octagon timepiece, in very good condition. The refinished rosewood veneer is in overall good condition with some damage to the panel below the bottom door and bottom edge abrasion. There is some touch up to the outer rim of the dial and around the winding holes and the center area, and some additional flakes around the mounting screws. The rest of the dial looks original with strengthening of the numbers. The tablet in the lower door has been restored with gold paint instead of gold leaf. The hands are original. The case retains it's original ivory knobs for bezel and lower door locks. Minor nicks in ripple molding. Details on this model may be found in Ken Roberts' book on Ives, pages 286-288. Note the round movement is mounted in the later iron frame, deeply scrolled, fig 93b. The top 2 wheels in train are tinned steel; this is normal and for reduced friction in this long running movement. Height 25" $2,000-$3,000 |
