Antique New Haven "Admiral" Model Clock Price Type: auction |
|
Catalog Description: C.1900, New Haven Clock Co., "ADMIRAL" wall clock in excellent restored condition (with original dial). The case finish had to be redone to show the great burled ash veneer that "shouts" out at you from every angle. The 18" dial is so good you will think it is refinished, until you put a magnifier on it and see that it is original (black has been professionally strengthened). This clock was produced to compete with large but inexpensive offerings by Ansonia (Colonel and General). It uses the same double spring, 30 day time movement offered by New Haven as an option in many of its wall models [Maywood, Saturn, Columbia and Gloriana to name but a few]. Retains original counter-balanced hands, pend bob and beat scale. A line drawing of this model may be seen in Ly's book on New Haven Clocks, fig 539, and the movement is shown in fig. 544. We sold one of these in November of 1999 for $2700 plus premium. Note clock beats seconds, clean and running. Height 62" $3,000-$3,500 |
