Pair of moss agate and 20K gold diamond-set scent flask fitted with clockwatches striking the hours and mirrored compartments. James Cox, London, circa 1770, made for the Chinese market. Moss Agate Flasks, James Cox, London, No. 631 & 632, circa 1770, made for the Chinese market. Exceptionally rare and very fine pair of moss agate and 20K gold diamond-set scent flask fitted with clockwatches striking the hours and mirrored compartments. C. Very fine moss agate flasks overlaid with repousse gold with rocailles, flower vase, the watch apertures with classical columns on each side and flowers, the stoppers decorated en suite, bottoms with hinged mirrored compartment with diamond-set edge, the tops also with diamond-set edge, backs with aperture for setting the watch, small gold shell-like bolt in front under the watch to activate the repeater. D. White enamel, radial Roman numerals, outer minute dot track with five-minute Arabic markers, two winding apertures; at 6 o'clock for the going train, at 10 o'clock for the repeater. Blued steel "beetle and poker" hands. M. 27 mm. (12"'), frosted gilt full-plate with cylindrical pillars, fusee and chain, verge escapement, plain steel balance with flat balance spring, single-footed cock pierced and engraved with asymmetrical scrolling. Signed on the movement. Dim. 15 x 6 x 3 cm
