Catalog Description: SCOTTISH LONGCASE, circa 1850-60; Maker: Hugh Fraser An eight day Scottish longcase clock, Maker: Hugh Fraser Origin: Kirkaldy, Scotland ( Town. Fife on Firth of Forth) With elegant swans-neck pediment, having brass roundels and three brass finials. The case is mahogany in original finish and beautiful flame in the door and the plinth. There are brass capitols to the columns on the hood. The painting on the dial shows a fortress on the Firth of Forth, with sailing vessels and scenery. In the foreground are waves and a shell, typical of the sea. Colorful floral spandrels surround the white dial. The dial has brass hands, moving on the two subsidiary dials, one for the seconds and one for the calendar, telling days of the month. The dial is signed: H. FRASER KIRKALDY The brass movement is cleaned and in good running order. The matching two weights are cast iron and oval in shape, typically Scottish.Height: 85 inches ( 216cm) Width: 19 inches (48cm) at base of hood 14 inches (35cm) atmiddle of trunk Depth: 9.5 inches (24cm) |
