Catalog Description: ENGLISH MAHOGANY TALLCASE, Circa 1822-37; MAKER: JOHN ANDERTON Origin: Huddersfield, England English tallcase with figured mahogany and solid turned pillars on the hood. The hood has a swan -neck pediment with roundels, three brass finials and brass capitols. Canted corners are a special addition to this large mahogany case. A special feature which adds to the beauty of this tallcase is the generous amount of maple and ebony stringing in the case. The clock dial is most interesting with a full genre scene in the center and floral plus shell design in the spandrels. A charming damsel carrying her parasol catches your eye in the arch scene. There is a calendar dial, seconds dial and appropriate brass hands. This brass movement is eight day, striking the hours on a cast bell. A fine tallcase to compliment a room with cathedral ceilings.
