Catalog Description: DUTCH FRIESIAN STAARTKLOK Circa 1830 These clocks are sometimes called "Tail clocks or Hood clocks" In the arch of the hood we have a dutch landscape with sailing boats and Dutch genre. The four corners of the dial are painted with flowers and horns of plenty. The case is solid oak and the hood is adorned with Atlas as a central ornament flanked by angel trumpeters. They are made of wood, painted and gilt. The beautiful white dial has a typical dutch chapter ring with roman numerals, and outer 5 minute increments. The alarm dial is centered in the dial also. Heavy brass hands are original and fancy. The clock runs one day, striking the hours and half hour on a bell. The pendulum is enclosed inside the tail of the case and is seen through the decorative brass aperture . This brass ornament displays a basket of flowers, birds and a sun. The weights are encased in brass. In the pictures given it shows a decorative way to hang the chains on the clock if desired. An original key stabalizes the lower part of case , until it needs to be lowered to access the pendulum. Height: 57 inches (145cm) Width: 16 inches (41cm)-across the tail Depth: of hood: 8 (20cm ) |
