Catalog Description: English 9 tube tall clock made by "Donne-London, AD 1909", as inscribed on the dial. It is an 8 day, 3 train movement, self adjusting, 3 very heavy brass weights, and brass pendulum. It is very similar to the movements shown in Tran Duy Ly's book, "Longcase Clocks and Standing Regulators", that were imported from England and made by J. J. Elliott and others. The movement plays 3 tunes, Westminster, Whittington, or St. Michaels, on 9 nickel plated tubular gongs.88 inch mahogany case never had finials on the top. The hood has two full columns with brass capitals and bases, 2 working door locks with key, decorative wood designs over the lower glass. Remains in a very clean original condition. The heavy brass dial is 17 1/2 inches high, 13 1/2 wide, raised silver dial ring and subsidiary dial rings, hour, minute, and second setting circles. The subsidiary dials are for setting the chime-silent choice, and your choice of 3 chimes. Plays on 8 tubes and strikes hours on the 9th. Finely finished hour figures are beveled. Saw-pierced, chased and engraved, gilt corner and center ornaments. Brass cloth over mesh behind the movement, and on top of the bonnet and sides to let the tubular sounds escape. The clock has been running in our home for several months. |
