Antique New Haven "Regulator No. 4" Model Clock Price Type: auction |
|
Catalog Description: New Haven Clock Co. "Regulator No. 4", ca 1883. This clock is a whole lot bigger and a whole lot better looking than the Ly books, New Haven catalogs, or my picture, depicts. It is 99 inches high, (8 feet, 3 inches) and 32 1/2 inches wide, consequently the large top finial and large base are shown in another picture. The catalogs say this clock is 58 inches high, and 18 inches wide. Are they ever wrong. Case has a medium walnut finish. I am going to call the case original, but it has been cleaned of any old varnish or smoke and some of the case looks better than other parts. If there are new pieces of wood it was so well done that I can't tell. There is glass on the sides and deep etchings and grooves all over. Swiss dead beat escapement movement, 8 day time only, sweep second, runs like a top. Looks just like the Swiss pinwheel movements, 12 inch porcelain dial, large brass lyre pendulum, steel and brass rods that adjust to heat and cold to insure accurate timekeeping. Ly-New Haven No.516. |
