Catalog Description: E. Howard Clock Co. "Regulator No. 89", ca 1889. Some good things and some not so good things about this clock. The large 8 day, time only, 1 weight movement, has Graham dead beat escapement. It is properly signed by Howard, as is the No. 1 weight. Original brass pendulum and gold stick. Apparently this old No.1 movement is not original to this case. There are some extra holes behind the movement where I suspect an iron back plate was once fastened to the case. Perhaps it may be original but there is not a back plate now, instead a movement support and some tabs were added to hold the movement. There is no door lock so a handle was added to open and close. The oak case is 65 inches high. The door glass is held with hot glue. I would therefore guess it is a replaced glass. Someone made a great weight chute for the case that could almost pass for original. The case otherwise looks to be a nice No.89 case. 12 inch zinc dial with new baked on, enamel. The lines, numerals, names, are great, but color is a little too brown. The wood dial ring is fine and hands might be original. Ly-American Clocks No.439. |
