Catalog Description: Contemporary cased Seth Thomas Regulator, similar to the Regulator No.70 and No.80. Contemporary cased Seth Thomas Regulator, similar to the Regulator No.70 and No.80. This is a contemporary case that is very well made and certainly stylish. It was patterned after the better wall clocks and very similar to those pictured on page 142 of Ly-Seth Thomas. The elaborate walnut case is 60 inches high with glasses on the sides, 2 glasses in front, applied decorations on the dial board, dentil molding and a cornice top.An unusual 8 day movement in this case, identical to movement No.61 or No.62 used in the Seth Thomas regulators No.7, 8, and 17. Refer to Ly-Seth Thomas No.420. The plates have swirls, movement is not signed. The brass bob with a new wood stick, is not original to this movement. There is a new, 12 inch, painted metal dial. It has extra holes drilled to line up with the movement. Hands are not original. With all the negatives and uncertainties out of the way, I must report that it was a beautiful clock when it was hanging on the consignors living room wall. If he had said it was worth $7500 I wouldn't have flinched. We know the minimum is very low. |
