Catalog Description: Eli Terry & Sons Column & Splat shelf clock, ca 1828-1830. The label reads, "Patent Eight Day Clocks Invented By Eli Terry. Made and Sold at Plymouth, Connecticut, By E. Terry & Sons. Warranted". This is an 8 day, wood movement, weight clock, compounded to run 8 days in the 35 1/2 inch case. It is running. Period weights, pendulum, and hands.The mahogany veneer case is close to perfect. Both glasses are original with the original putty. 95% or more of the full label, now covered with plastic. Nice old claw feet, one toenail clipped. The case has half columns and a splat. Excellent wood dial with seconds dial, good paint, no breaks or chips. Strikes the hours on an iron bell. There is a working door lock with a key. An identical clock is pictured and described in the book, "Eli Terry and the Connecticut Shelf Clock", Second Edition Revised, by Kenneth D. Roberts and Snowden Taylor, pages 247-248. |
