Catalog Description:

Early triple deck clock, ca about 1830, probably made and sold by Birge, Mallory, & Co. or Birge, Gilbert & Co. There is no label and the movement isn't signed although it is identical to the Birge, Mallory & Co. movements pictured in Ken Roberts books. This clock runs 8 days with 2 weights, strikes on a coil gong, and it is running. Weights and pendulum are period. There is a great wood dial which is bright and clean. 2 door locks, no escutcheon or key.37 inch mahogany veneer case, half columns top and bottom, full columns in the middle. Doors are beveled. The veneer is pretty good all over, only a couple of insignificant chips. Glasses are replaced and the middle section is now filled with a burl mahogany insert. Reference-"The Contributions of Joseph Ives to Connecticut Clock Technology, 1810-1862", by Kenneth D. Roberts, Revised Second Edition. The movement is shown on pages 263, 264, 266.
