Catalog Description: French-Swiss pinwheel in a Vienna regulator type case, called the "Laterndluhr" or lantern style. Most of the cases in this style were made in the 1810-1820 era. This pinwheel movement was probably incorporated in this case at some later date. The top door opens to view the dial while the midsection and bottom are one piece that lifts up and out of slots that hold it in place. The mahogany case is 58 inches high with a cornice top, nice base trim, side trim. Both glasses have curved trim in the corners. There was originally a door lock on the top door. The 8 day movement is enclosed in the standard iron box. It is a typical Swiss pinwheel movement that rests on a wood seat board. 12 inch flat porcelain dial with sweep second hand. Pendulum rods of iron and brass attached to the lyre shaped brass decoration that rests on the 13 inch brass pendulum bob. A brass weight descends behind the pendulum. Clock is running. This is a rare and unusual clock and case, but they are a beautiful match. If you would like to learn more about the Laterndluhn clocks read Rick Ortenburger's book, "Vienna Regulators and Factory Clocks". |
